MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Sweeping the Sunday morning matchup to sweep the opening weekend of the play, the Wesleyan men's squash team put away a 9-0 victory over Vassar College, beginning the 2025-26 season with a 2-0 record from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
The Cardinals, led by a lineup of underclassmen as head coach
Shona Kerr welcomed a freshmen class of 11, saw seven of the nine matches end in perfect 3-0 scores.
Harrison Tillinghast '29 and
Zach Lu '29 went four rounds to close the match win with two, 3-1 victories.
At #3, Tillinghast took nearly an hour with Kyle Benson as Benson forced several very close tallies for Tillinghast in the first two games. Benson won game three before Tillinghast was able to pull through with a 11-7, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8 final score.
Lu fought Gabriel Lugo at #6 after falling in the opening game. Lugo won game one with a 13-11 tally, but Lu rallied and won three in a row as he ran an 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 campaign.
Dhairya Shah '27 defeated Konstantinos Georgallides 11-7, 11-6, 11-3 at #1. At #2,
Arjun Somani '29 battled Matthew Okulski to a 14-12, 11-5, 11-3 victory.
Dominic Wilson '29 ran 11-1, 11-6, 11-5 over Aqeel Merchant at #4. Sitting as #5, Matthyas Williams '29 cleared Razaan Lalji 11-2, 11-4, 11-5. As the #7,
Finn Goodson '29 defeated Julian Cardenas 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. Zach Idinopulos '26 toppled Alexander Thorn 11-7, 11-5, 11-3 at #8. And
Luke Wilson '29 was the first to finish at #9 with an 11-4, 11-5, 11-1 win over Joseph Donato.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Middlebury for a 10 a.m. start.
