Women’s Basketball Suffers 69-56 Defeat at UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's basketball team was defeated by UMass Dartmouth, 69-56, in the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 2-2 while UMass Dartmouth improves to 2-3 on the season.

The Cardinals came out strong, scoring 10 points in the opening four minutes of play with four points coming from each Alli Jones '27 and Olivia Quinn '26, but the Corsairs went on a 9-2 run to end the first quarter with a 16-12 lead.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Madie Dayton '28 and Meghan Kirck '28 near the midway point of the second quarter cut the deficit from nine down to three points, but the Corsairs canned three straight triples to stretch their lead to double figures and a buzzer-beating three from Cristina Negron made it 40-27 UMass Dartmouth at halftime.

The Corsairs hit three more three-pointers in the third quarter, stretching their advantage to as many as 21 points in the frame. Wesleyan outscored UMass Dartmouth 13-4 over the final 4:55 of play, but it was too little too late as the Corsairs closed out a 13-point home win.

Quinn scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds while earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Jones finished with her second straight double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) and third in four games to start the year. Kirck scored 14 points and dished out four assists.

Wesleyan is back on the road for a Tuesday night tilt at Clark.
