Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Falls in Overtime to No. 4 Middlebury, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT. -  The Wesleyan women's ice hockey team closed out the weekend series with Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 in overtime from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Opening the second game of the weekend, the Cardinals (0-4-0 overall, 0-4-0 NESCAC) did well to manage the Panthers (4-0-1 overall, 3-0-1 NESCAC) in their own zone, striking early with six minutes underway from the opening faceoff. As the puck fell inside the crease with several Panthers falling to make the block, Dylan Green '26 stuffed the puck over the line. Caroline Humber '29 assisted but would mark her second goal of the season later in the game.

The Cardinals entered the second period with the one-goal lead but with seven minutes remaining, the Panthers tied the game up at one off the stick of Susannah Ward. The tie would hold until the third period saw Humber give the Cardinals their second lead. The Cardinals snagged the puck in the neutral zone, cycling it down the far boards before Green found Humber waiting above the crease.

With three minutes ticking away in regulation, Kate Flynn tied the game for the Panthers once again, sending the game to overtime. Overtime would last less than a minute, the Panthers earning the win as Trinity Walsh scored the game-winning goal.

Between the pipes, Sami Smith '27 held strong for all 60 minutes, stopping 30 shots on goal, her second 30-save game of the season. Sophia Will stopped 17 shots for the Panthers, securing the win.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they host Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
