MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –
Hayden Myers '27 of the Wesleyan wrestling team was named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week on Monday morning following a third straight title-winning run to cap the 2025 portion of the 2025-26 season for the junior. This is the first Wrestler of the Week honor in Myers' career.
Â
Myers earned the individual recognition following another title at 141, his third in three tournaments this season, earning five wins on the way at the RIT Invitational on December 6. The junior won three of his five matches by major decision while he also landed a pin and the remaining win came in a 7-1 decision. He defeated two nationally-ranked wrestlers on the way to his title at RIT, toppling No. 20 ranked Michael Santore (Oswego State) in the semifinal by a 7-1 decision while also defeating No. 13 ranked Avery Leonard (Oneonta) by 16-7 major decision in the final.
Â
The junior is now 14-0 on the season, winning all but one of his matches by major decision, tech fall, or pin, while the one decision victory was by a convincing 7-1 margin. He also won 141-lb titles at the Roger Williams Invitational and in the Doug Parker Invitational, going 3-for-3 at the start of this season.
Â
Myers and the Cardinals return to action on January 10 with a tri-meet at Bridgewater State with WPI also taking part.
