PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Facing a familiar foe in three-seed Bates, the six-seed Wesleyan men's squash team gave the Bobcats a competive match but ultimately fell to the Bobcats, 8-1, in the Quarterfinal round of the Summers Cup on Friday afternoon from the Arlen Specter US Squash Center. Wesleyan (7-9) will now compete in the consolation flight of the Summers Cup and face seven-seed Dickinson on Saturday morning.
Wesleyan forced at least four games in four of the nine varsity matches on Friday, with the lone win coming from
Rafay Khan '27 who defeated Augustus Silverman in a 52-minute clash at #9, with Khan ultimately coming from 2-1 down to win 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6.
Abhinav Gupta '25 battled for 48 minutes at the #1 position against Alec Spiro, forcing a deciding fifth game after a 12-10 triumph in game four, but ultimately suffering a 6-11, 12-10, 4-11, 12-10, 5-11 defeat.
Sumer Singh Ahluwalia '27 stayed in his match for 37 minutes against Max Good, winning the first game 11-4 before dropping the last three to fall 3-1 at #8.
Jack Lungstrum '25 also won a game at #6 against Angad Sethi but lost 11-8, 3-11, 4-11, 8-11.
Dhairya Shah '27 was very competitive at #2 despite a 3-0 defeat, as he fell 10-12, 9-11, 6-11 in a close match against Dennis Welte that needed 30 minutes to finish.
Next up for the Cardinals is a match against Dickinson, who Wesleyan has never beaten in three all-time meetings, with the last showdown between the two teams coming back in 2018 in Middletown (9-0 win for Dickinson).
