Riley Harvey Tips Cardinals Over Bates in Buzzer Beater Shutout

LEWISTON, ME. – Riding a scoreless game for 89 minutes, the Wesleyan men's soccer team set up a corner kick with four seconds remaining in regulation marking what would be the final play of the game. Riley Harvey '29 connected on the pass, heading the ball with one second on the clock to defeat Bates College on Saturday afternoon from the Russell Street Fields.

On a sunny day in Lewiston, it looked to be a scoreless draw for the Cardinals (3-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 NESCAC) as they pressed the Bobcats (4-1-1 overall, 1-1-1 NESCAC) with an offensive edge on the attack. Working on a 6-1 margin for shots on goals with an overall 11-8 shot count, the Cardinals took the Bobcats down to the final seconds of action.

Earning a corner kick as the initial shot from the middle was lifted out of bounds, Aiden Londergan '27 took to the far corner to set up what would be the final play with four seconds stopped on the clock. Londergan's pass bounced once, landing on the head of Harvey in front of the left post and rebounded into the right corner as the horn sounded.

Marking another stellar performance, the Cardinals defense once again put a NESCAC team in it's place, allowing Mathis Blanc '26 just one save in goal. Blanc, 3-2-1 on the season, earns his third shutout. In the opposing goal, George Nassar finished with five saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Tufts for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
