Cardinals Shut Out by No. 10 Endicott

MIDDLETOWN, CT. - The Wesleyan women's hockey team played host to No. 10 Endicott College on Tuesday night, falling in non-conference action in a 3-0 shutout from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

The Gulls (9-4-1 overall) were quick to make a statement, scoring the first goal of the night less than five minutes from the opening puck drop. Lily Anderson was responsible for the goal, leading the Gulls to a commanding first period while pinning the Cardinals (2-10-1 overall) down low. Sami Smith '27 was steadfast in goal for the Cardinals, rendering the Gulls without another scoring opportunity in the opening minutes.

Rallying from a much-needed time out following a second Gulls goal by Ella Rago, the Cardinals jumped into action and matched the Gulls in shot count through the second period. With the clock winding down, the Gulls struck with a third goal, this time from Cammi Ahern. Undeterred, the Cardinals entered the third period and outshot the Gulls 11-7 with Smith warding off last ditch scoring attempts.

From the faceoff, the Cardinals were led by Lilly Place '29 with 10 draw wins. Offensively, Amelia Molin '27 led all Cardinals with four shots on Lauren Ferrari.

Smith finished the evening in goal with 28 saves for the Cardinals. Ferrari completed the win making 27 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Jan. 16, when they host Hamilton at 7 p.m.
