Women’s Basketball Downed at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Back in action against in-state NESCAC foe Trinity, the Wesleyan women's basketball team suffered a 65-45 defeat at the hands of the Bantams on Saturday afternoon from Oosting Gymnasium. Wesleyan falls to 6-11 (1-4 NESCAC) on the season while Trinity improves to 14-5 (3-2 NESCAC).

The Bantams came out firing, using a 12-0 run to secure a double-digit lead just 5:05 into play. The Cardinals followed with an 8-0 run of their own with Alli Jones '27 scoring four of those eight points to lower the deficit back to 12-10. Trinity, however, answered right back, scoring eight of the final 10 points of the frame to lead 20-12 after one.

That 8-2 run to end the first quarter continued into the second when the Bantams scored nine unanswered points to extend their lead to 29-12 nearing the midway point of the stanza. Trinity's lead swelled to as many as 21 points in the quarter before the halftime buzzer sounded with the Bantams ahead 35-18.

A pair of baskets from Meghan Kirck '28, including a three-pointer late in the frame, wasn't enough for Wesleyan to get back in the game in the third quarter as Trinity held a 52-29 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Bantams opened their largest lead of the game at 60-31 with 6:02 remaining in the fourth. Wesleyan was able to get a few baskets late including a three-pointer from Brooke Adams '29, to account for the final score of 65-45 Trinity.

Olivia Quinn '26 led the Cardinals with 11 points while Samaya Lovett '29 had six points and Jones had six points and eight rebounds.

Wesleyan is back in action with their final home games of the season next weekend, starting with a Friday night showdown against Tufts at 7 PM.
