Men's Soccer Takes No. 7 Williams to 1-1 Draw

MIDDLETOWN, CT. -  Nailing a late second half equalizer, Felipe Una led the the Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with NESCAC foe Williiams College on Saturday afternoon, capping Homecoming Weekend with another point against a Top 10 ranked opponent. Wesleyan advances to 6-3-3 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference.

Meeting the second Top 10 team in the Ephs in the span of a week, the Cardinals were up for the challenge once again. Despite several golden opportunities in the opening half, it was the Ephs that managed to catch the board first as Alex Bethencourt scored at 23 minutes.

The Cardinals defensive squad showed out in holding the Ephs to just one goal, creating just enough time in the second half for freshman Felipe Una to score his first career goal. The game-tying goal was settled deep in the box by John SennMcNally '28 before his pass to Will Short '30 fell at the feet of Una and was redirected behind Kai Darrell at the line.

Both teams fought to the whistle, daring to catch the other off guard for a game winner, but the match finished in a 1-1 NESCAC draw.

Sophomore goalkeeper Simon Rebstock played a superb game for the Cardinals, stopping a career high eight goals. Darrell finished with three saves for the Ephs.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when they head to Trinity for a 7 p.m. start.
