Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#2 Williams Holds Off #7 Cardinals 1-0 in NESCAC Quarterfinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – The #7 Wesleyan men's soccer team took to the road to face #7 Williams College in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinal, falling short in a 1-0 loss that was decided by a late goal in the second half on Saturday afternoon at Williams' Cole Field.

Saturday's quarterfinal matchup was a defensive battle to the final whistle, with the game held hostage for 73 minutes before the Ephs struck off the foot of Nick Appleton.

While the Cardinals (7-5-4 overall, 3-4-3 NESCAC) managed to hold off the Ephs (11-2-2 overall, 6-2-2 NESCAC) through the first half, the momentum swung to 12 shots in favor of the Cardinals following the break. With several chances just inches from finding the back of the net, freshman Will Short shouldered two shots on goal while leading the offensive rush. Dylan Clack '27 and Niall Fergus '27 played impressively strong games from the midfield.

The Cardinals nearly tied the game in the last minutes of regulation, but Ephs goalkeeper Kai Darrell held off the charge with seven saves to advance to the semifinal. Cardinals goalkeeper Simon Rebstock '29 finished with eight saves.

The Cardinals await NCAA Tournament selection on Monday, Nov. 9.
