AMHERST, MA. – Leading the way for the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team,
Daniel Lurie '26 and goaltender
Patrick McDevitt '29 seized a 2-0 shutout over Amherst College on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Amherst through the regular season with another Little Three victory from Amherst's Orr Rink.
Securing their first sweep of the Mammoths since the 2021-22 season, the Cardinals (7-11-0 overall, 6-6-0 NESCAC) did so dropping just one goal in the Nov. 22 matchup. The Cardinals sit fourth in the NESCAC standings.
The Mammoths (9-7-2 overall, 4-7-1 NESCAC) gave way to
Connor Sutherland's '27 opening goal after being awarded a tripping call late in the first period. Catching
Jack DesRuisseaux's '29 pass at the blueline, Lurie connected with Sutherland inside the near circle with Sutherland's shot falling over the shoulder of Andrew Palena.
Lurie's own power-play goal opened the second period, the Mammoths penalized with a boarding call. Seated inside the far circle, Lurie redirected the puck into the corner for
Danny Markham '28 with the pass finding its way back to the circle for Lurie's wrist shot on Palena. A second assist went to
Ethan Davidson '26.
A scoreless third period cleared the way for the Cardinals victory as McDevitt closed the night with 12 saves in third and 43 overall, a season high for the sophomore goaltender. In the opposite net, Palena finished with 19 saves overall.
With a possible Little Three Championship title looming, the Cardinals sit 3-0 as they head to Williams on Friday, Feb. 6, with action beginning at 7 p.m.
