No. 4 Cardinals Toss No. 13 Johns Hopkins in 5-0 Sweep

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Wesleyan women's tennis team put on another dominate performance on Monday morning, sweeping No. 13 Johns Hopkins University 5-0 in an underclassmen lead endeavor as Spring Break play continues in South Carolina.

Picking up match wins from all three doubles pairs, the Cardinals saw the first win of the morning at No. 2 with Lara Afolayanka '29 and Agnes Guggenheim '29 running a 6-3 win over Ava Li and Kamila Wong. Leila Epstein '26 and Lucinda Gatsiounis '28 finished a 6-4 match win over Lia Melvin and Sydney Langer at No. 1. With the point clinched, Kendall Smith '29 and Mariia Kornilova '29 closed with a 6-3 victory over Sahana Madala and Clair Loftus.

Kicking off the remainder of the match, Afolayanka was the first to finish at No. 3, defeating Wong for a second time in a 6-3, 7-5 final. On court four, Kornilova went head-to-head with Loftus and cleared with a 6-3, 6-2 finish.

Captaining the team at No. 1, Epstein put away a 6-3, 7-5 win against Lia Melvin before  Smith was the final point at No. 6, defeating Madala with a 6-2, 6-3 tally.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, March 17, when they face No. 9 Babson at 8:30 a.m.
