Wolinski and Pohlman Named All-District and All-Region; Joe Reilly Named District 1 Coach of the Year

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's basketball team was well represented on the Division III National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District release as well as the D3hoops.com All-Region announcement, both made early this week by the respective outlet. Zach Wolinski '28 earned Second Team All-District 1 and All-Region 1 honors. Sam Pohlman '26 is a Second Team All-District and Third Team All-Region pick. Head coach Joe Reilly is the District 1 Coach of the Year for the second straight season and third time in five years. Wolinski and Pohlman both make All-District and All-Region in what was their first season as full-time starters for the Cardinals. Reilly previously earned District 1 Coach of the Year in the 2021-22 season as well as the 2024-25 campaign as this is his third career selection.

Wolinski's game and role evolve immensely from last season as the sophomore shooting guard led the team in scoring all throughout this season, ranking third in the NESCAC at 18.1 points per game. He scored 10+ points in 29-of-30 games this season and went from averaging 4.1 PPG in his freshman season to 18.2 PPG as a sophomore. He put up 32 and 33 points in back-to-back games against Bowdoin and Colby to finish the regular season.

The play-making point guard Pohlman blossomed in his first season as a regular season for the Cardinals, dishing out a NESCAC-leading 6.4 assists per game while scoring 12.5 points per game to go along with 5.6 rebounds per game. Pohlman's passing was a big key to the Cardinal offense all season, as he posted 193 assists against just 81 turnovers for a NESCAC-leading 2.4 assist/turnover ratio. He ranks sixth nationally in assists per game while he had at least six assists in 9-of-10 games to close out his career. Pohlman dished out 15 assists in a regular season win over Bates on February 8, which is the most assists in a single-game by a Cardinal in at least the last 30 seasons.

After going 30-2 last season, making it to the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final Four rounds of the NCAA Tournament – all for the first time in program history, Reilly led the Cardinals to another outstanding campaign as his team went 23-7, 9-1 in NESCAC regular season play, and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second straight year. The Cardinals were ranked inside the Top 25 nationally for most of the season and achieved an 11th straight winning season. This was the Cardinals' fifth 20+ win season in program history while Wesleyan hosted First and Second Round action of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and fourth time in the past seven seasons.
