MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Marking another dominant performance for the fourth-ranked Wesleyan women's tennis team, Wesleyan swept Conn. College in a 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon, improving to 9-2 on the season.
Kicking off the festivities inside the Bacon Field House,
Agnes Guggenheim '29 and
Lara Afolayanka '29 picked up the first win of the match with a complete 6-o sweep of Marylove Reynolds and Asahi goods at No. 2 doubles.
Mariia Kornilova '29 and
Kendall Smith '29 clinched the first point with a win at No. 3, defeating Sana Bhat and Teagan Skulley in a 6-1 finish. Maya Kowalska and Mary Ella Prendergast played
Leila Epstein '26 and
Lucinda Gatsiounis '28 on their toes, but the No. 1 doubles pair prevailed for the Cardinals with a 6-4 win.
Dropping just one point at No. 5,
Natalia Leroy '28 ran a 6-1, 6-0 final over Nicolette Baksay for the first singles point of the match. Epstein made quick work of Kowalska as the two were paired for the second time, earning the 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Alexandra Burnett '27 picked up a 6-2, 6-2 match point over Sydney Concepcion slotted at No. 6.
Running 7-6, 6-4 over Goods, Afolayanka earned a fifth win at No. 3 for the Cardinals. Kornilova finished 6-1, 6-1 over Kily Kerachsky as the No. 4. Guggenheim closed the match with point seven, defeating Prendergast 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 4, when they host Tufts at 11 a.m.
