Baseball Defeated on the Road at Vassar, 4-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Wesleyan University baseball team took to the road on Friday afternoon for a non-conference contest with Vassar College, falling 4-1 through a nine-inning showdown from Vassar's Prentiss Field.

The low-scoring contest took little time to fall in favor of the Brewers following a first inning run to break the scoring. Getting the better of starting pitcher Tanner Mahon '26, the Brewers held through to the bottom of the third with little resistance and registered a second run with a single through the left side.

Facing the bottom of the fourth and a two-run lead by the Brewers, Kevin Brown '28 entered the game to relieve Mahon but the Brewers placed another ball down the left line and plated a third run at the end of the inning.

The Cardinals finally emerged in the sixth inning, Cole Sipes '29 leading off with a double to right center field. Sebastian Ortiz '28 bunted, placing Sipes at third for Tucker DeWolf's '28 sacrificed bunt on the following play. Sipes scored on the motion, collecting the lone run of the game for the Cardinals. The Brewers answered with a fourth run.

Mahon dropped three runs through three innings, striking out three batters. Brown walked three and struck out three while allowing two earned runs. Oliver Dmochowski '27 closed for the Cardinals and struck out three batters without allowing a run.

The Cardinals face the Brewers a second time on Sunday, April 26, in a doubleheader series with action beginning at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
