Lindsey Diomede Earns Second Straight National Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Diomede goes back-to-back, earning National DPOW honors as voted by the IWLCA

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior defensive midfielder Lindsey Diomede '26 of the Wesleyan women's lacrosse team earned her second straight IWLCA National Division III Defensive Player of the Week honor, as announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon. The IWLCA has awarded two National Defensive Player of the Week honors during the NCAA Tournament and Diomede has earned both weekly honors.

The 2026 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year continues her record-breaking season, posting 11 caused turnovers in two games last week for the Cardinals who defeated Trinity and UChicago to advance to the Final Four for just the second time in team history. Diomede opened with four caused turnovers in a 14-7 win over UChicago in the NCAA Third Round on Saturday before a devastating defensive performance in a 7-5 win over Trinity in the Quarterfinal round. Against the Bantams, Diomede totaled seven caused turnovers, four ground balls, and two draw controls as Wesleyan held the Bantams to just one goal in the second half to advance to the NCAA Semifinals.

On the season, Diomede has 77 caused turnovers and 62 ground balls, obliterating the single-season team record in both categories as the previous record for CTs in a season by a Cardinal was 38 while the ground ball record heading into this year was 48.

The Cardinals (18-3) prepare for the trip to Rochester, N.Y., the site of the Final Four, where Wesleyan will take on No. 3 Salisbury on Friday at 3 PM in the Semifinal round from Judson Stadium on the campus of RIT.
