MIDDLETOWN, CT. - After surpassing an early deficit in the opening minutes of the match, the Wesleyan men's soccer team put away five goals over Swarthmore College in a 5-2 finish at home on Saturday afternoon. Wesleyan advances to 4-0 on the season as they continue non-conference action at Jackson Field.
The Cardinals were off to a rocky start as an early foul in the penalty box resulted in a one-goal lead for the Garnet following penalty kick proceedings following just two minutes of game action. With quick response, the Cardinals rebounded and tied the game up at one with a goal from
Joshwin Jennings '27. Catching a pass from the midline, Jennings buried a laser from above the arch unassisted.
Entering the half with a draw, the Cardinals made easy work to claim the lead and collected a goal from
Yousuf Saeed '27 on a swift, one touch pass from
Ford Cash '28. The Cardinals built on Saeed's goal and cushioned the lead just 10 minutes later, this time it was Cash sending a shot to the left corner with Jennings on his heels for the assist.
The Garnet managed to cut the lead in the 66
th minute with a second goal but could not keep up appearances as
Dylan Clack '27 struck with a header on a long throw in on the far line from Cash. The final goal for the Cardinals fell at the feet of
Sam Wheeler '27, knocking his shot over the line with
Niall Fergus '27 rebounding a high ball over a goal line crowd.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they travel to Brandeis for a 7 p.m. start.
