MIDDLETOWN, CT. - The No. 6 Wesleyan University women's soccer team battled No. 2 Tufts University to a 2-0 loss on Tuesday evening at home, snapping a four-game unbeaten streak despite leading the game with a dominant offensive press and 15 total shots on goal at Smith Field.
The Jumbos struck twice in the opening 12 minutes, with Maren Jones opening the scoring in the sixth minute before Emily Nicholas doubled the score less than seven minutes later. The Cardinals responded with pressure through the remainder of the match, recording nine first-half shots and six more after halftime with a 15-11 total margin.
Maria Utz '27 led the Cardinals with six shots and four shots on goal, nearly stealing a goal on several occasions including a crossbar bounce late in the first half.

Maggie di Rienzo '29 made three saves in the second half, keeping the Jumbos off the scoreboard after halftime while
Marley Hansard '29 opened the game with one save. Gigi Edwards finished with seven saves in the opposite goal.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they face Bowdoin on the road at 12:30 p.m.
