MIDDLEBURY, VT. - Traveling to Middlebury College for the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional tournament, the Wesleyan men's tennis team played out significant fall tennis in preparation for the upcoming season with Round of 16 finishes from
Ryuto Saito '29 and
Tommy Jani '29.
Saito ran the Singles A Draw through the weekend, beginning with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Colby-Sawyer's Oliver Gore. Advancing with the remaining 32 players, Saito defeated Shepherd-Johnson from Clark, 6-1, 6-1. The run finished at 16, falling to Anton Lim of Williams, 6-4, 6-2.
Highlighting the Singles B Draw, Jani advanced through the first round defeating Spencer Leung from Amherst, 8-7 (7-3). Through 32, Jani put away an 8-3 win over Adam Sun and the Ephs before falling to Middlebury's Henry Groves, 7-5, 6-2.
Nicky Hermes '29 also featured in the B Draw, reaching the Round of 32 with an 8-2 win over MIT's Grant Gallagher.
Through doubles competition, Jani and
Brett Keeling '27 defeated Middlebury's Justin Zhou and Henry Groves, 8-2 in the opening round while
Maxim Kauffman '30 and Hermes beat Akito Shimamura and Austin Prendiville of Springfield, 8-1.
The Cardinals return for the Skidmore Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10.
