Nicky Johnson '25

Nicky Johnson returns to Middletown for his first season as assistant coach for the men’s basketball program in 2025-26. The program's all-time leader in assists and steals

Johnson had one of the most outstanding careers in the history of Wesleyan men’s basketball. During his career, he played in all 111 games over his four year span, starting 103 of those contests. In his freshman year, he helped lead the Cardinals to a 25-win season, the 2022 NESCAC Championship, and NCAA Tournament appearance. A two-year captain, Johnson helped guide the Cardinals to their first-ever NCAA Division III Final Four appearance in 2024-25, highest rank in school history at #1 in the NPI rankings and D3Hoops.com poll, and highest win total in school history at 30 wins.

Johnson was a two-time First Team All-NESCAC selection (2023, 2025) and Second Team All-NESCAC honoree (2024), two-time NABC all-district team, two-time D3Hoops all region team, and 2024 Preseason All-American.

Johnson became the Wesleyan all-time leader in both assists (581) and steals (197), while also surpassing the 1,000-point milestone with 1,438 career points, ranking 5th all-time in program history. He was the four-year NESCAC assists leader (2022–25) and a consistent presence among the Top 30 nationally in total assists per game.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Nicky back on the sidelines for our team - his passion for the game of basketball and world class leadership skills will help our student athletes reach their full potential both on and off the court” note Coach Reilly.
