Nelson Albino

Nelson Albino rejoined Wesleyan Athletics as a Development Officer for Athletics in the summer of 2025, bringing a strong track record of relationship-building and a deep appreciation for the role athletics plays in the Wesleyan experience.

Nelson first came to Wesleyan in 2016 as an assistant coach for women’s basketball and was promoted to associate head coach a year later. He spent six seasons in the Freeman Athletic Center, known for his leadership, mentorship, and ability to connect with student-athletes.

During his coaching tenure and while earning his masters of liberal arts degree at Wesleyan, Nelson began working in the Advancement Office, where he supported alumni and volunteers in celebrating class milestones and building philanthropic connections to the university. His approach was always grounded in helping people support the programs and communities they care most about.

In his current role, Nelson partners with alumni, families, and friends who want to make an impact through athletics. Whether honoring a coach, supporting a team, or contributing to a long-term vision, he helps donors explore how their generosity can reflect their values and deepen their ties to Wesleyan.

A graduate of Drew University where he was a member of the varsity men’s basketball team, Nelson has 13 years of collegiate coaching experience, including roles with the men’s programs at Connecticut College, NYU, and Colby College, and two years as Director of Basketball Operations at NJIT. He currently officiates women’s collegiate basketball across multiple Division III conferences and works high school games for Central Connecticut's IAABO Board 6.

Nelson lives in East Hampton with his wife, Kim Williams, head women’s lacrosse coach at Wesleyan, and their two sons, Jackson and Bennett.
