Sophomore goalie Meghan Hanan (Sammamish, WA) makes six saves, but Hamilton College defeats Wesleyan University 1-0, in NESCAC Women's Soccer action Saturday Oct. 3 in Clinton, NY. The win improves the Continentals to 2-4-2 overall, and 1-3-2 in conference play, while the Cardinals drop to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in NESCAC play.
The teams played a scoreless first half with Wesleyan creating six shots, and Hamilton with nine. The Cardinals had first half corner kicks, to Hamilton's three, but could not finish on any of their opportunities.
Victoria Freeman beat Hanan at the 82:39 mark from the drop right corner of the box to break the scoreless tie, and give Hamilton the late 1-0 advantage.
Hanan made five of her six saves in the first half, while Hamilton's keeper turned away all three of her saves in the opening half of play.
Hamilton continues to be a thorn in the side of the Cardinals by holding a 4-0-1 record against Wesleyan. Last season, the Continentals came into Middletown and upended the Cardinals 2-1.
Wesleyan next travels to Vassar in out of conference action on Tuesday Oct. 6, while the Continentals host Tufts in a NESCAC match Sunday, Oct. 4.
