Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Jordan Jancze Scores but Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Elmira 6-1

Middletown, Conn. - The Men's Ice Hockey team took on Elmira College, and were defeated by a score of 6-1 Friday night at Spurrier-Snyder Rink.

Elmira got on the board first, taking advantage of a Wesleyan penalty, with a power play goal by Junior Marcus Astesana which was assisted by Senior Carter Shinkaruk. Elmira scored again with 9:31 elapsed in the first on a goal by Junior Eddie Nolan, which was assisted by Freshman Kenny Tencza. The Cardinals were able to get on the board with six seconds remaining in the first on a goal by Sophomore Jordan Jancze. Jancze, who had to leave the ice earlier in the period with an apparent injury, was able to return and score the unassisted goal, his third on the year.  

Elmira began to take control of the game in the second period, as they scored two shorthanded goals to increase their lead to three goals. Both shorthanded goals were scored by Shinkaruk, who finished the game with three points, and assisted by fellow Senior Brian Depp. Elmira's goaltender, Freshman Sandro Aeschlimann, turned away all 16 shots he faced in the period. 

Elmira scored twice again in the third period, the first goal coming with 1:11 gone by, was scored by Senior Tommy Sumi and assisted by Freshman Jay Clarke and Astesana. The goal gave Elmira a 5-1 lead. The final goal on the night was scored by Tencza and assisted  by Junior Alex Taulien and Sophomore Brett Mackell. Elmira would go onto win, and improve their record to 6-4-0, while the Cardinals fall to 0-3-4.

Aeschlimann finished the game with 40 saves, and for Wesleyan, Junior Dawson Sprigings finished with 24.

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow at home against Hobart at 4 p.m., while Elmira takes on Trinity.
