Cardinals Score Late to Tie Colby 2-2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—The Wesleyan University Cardinals took on the visiting Colby College Mules Saturday afternoon at Spurrier-Snyder Rink, where the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie.

The Cardinals record moves to 0-7-7 (0-2-6 NESCAC), while the Mules go to 5-6-4 (3-5-2 NESCAC).

The only goal of the opening period was scored by Colby junior EJ Rauseo with 1:51 remaining in the period.

Wesleyan was able to tie the game on a delayed-penalty in the second frame. With an extra attacker on ice, junior James Kline took the pass from senior Alex Carlacci and put it pass Mules' netminder, sophomore Emerson Verrier with 2:58 gone by in the period.

The team's entered the third period tied at one goal a piece. Colby would take the lead on a goal by senior Tyler Lingel with 10:55 elapsed in the period. The Cardinals put the pressure on late, and with under a minute remaining, they pulled their goaltender, junior Dawson Sprigings, for an extra attacker. The extra attacker paid off yet again for Wesleyan as freshman Andy Espinoza took the pass from Carlacci and knotted the game at 2-2.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the overtime period though as they played to a 2-2 tie, marking the second tie in as many days for Wesleyan.

The Cardinals return to the ice Saturday, January 30 to host Little Three rival Amherst at Spurrier-Snyder Rink. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
