Cardinals Rally Late as they Fall to No. 15 Hamilton, 2-1

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team hosted No. 15 Hamilton College Sunday afternoon at Spurrier Snyder Arena. The Cardinals rallied late in the game, but eventually fell to the Continentals, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hamilton scored a goal in each of the first two periods to give themselves a 2-0 advantage.
  • Wesleyan was able to get a goal with 7:53 remaining in the game to cut the Continentals lead in half at 2-1.
  • Cardinals goaltender Dawson Sprigings '17 made 19 saves in the loss.
  • Hamilton net minder Evan Buitenhuis made 42 saves to earn the victory.
  • Wesleyan outshot Hamilton 43-21 in the game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hamilton got on the board first with a goal from Richard Court with 11:26 elapsed in the first period.
  • The Continentals tallied another goal on a delayed penalty with 10:39 gone by in the second. Brandon Willett was able to get one by Sprigings to give Hamilton a 2-0 advantage. 
  • The Cardinals were able to trim the lead to one as James Kline '17 snuck a shot by Buitenhuis with 7:53 remaining in the game. Kline leads the team with 11 goals and 14 points on the year. 
  • The Cardinals were able to kill off a Hamilton power play late in the third period. Wesleyan played tough defense and didn't allow Hamilton to convert on the extra man chance. The Continentals went 0-2 on the power play in the game
  • Wesleyan would pull Sprigings with a minute left, but Hamilton was able to withstand the Cardinals attack and hold on to their 2-1 advantage.

  • The Cardinals return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 5th at 7 p.m. as they take on the visiting Middlebury College Panthers. 
  • Hamilton will return home to take on Colby Friday, Feb. 5th at 7 p.m.
