The Lead: The Wesleyan University women's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to the Middlebury Panthers on Sunday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The two teams played strong defense throughout the game, with no goals being scored in the first half.  
• Zoe Cassels-Brown '20 made a diving save off a Amanda Hotvedt shot early in the game to keep the home team off the board.
• Sarah Sylla '17 and Maya Harlan '19 both had solid scoring opportunities in the first half, but their shots were saved by Panther goalkeeper Kate Reinmuth.
• Sylla had another opportunity in the second half, but her shot was blocked by the Middlebury defense.
• Cassels-Brown made a diving save at 77:30 on a shot by Amy Martin to keep the game scoreless.
• At 87:30, Emma Shumway scored her fifth goal of the season as she tapped the ball into the back of the net off a pass from Martin, and the Panthers would go onto claim the 1-0 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Middlebury held a 22-6 advantage in shots, and a 10-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
• Corner kicks were tied at five all.
• Cassels-Brown made eight saves in the contest.

UP NEXT:

• The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, October 22nd as they will host Little Three Rival Amherst College at 12 p.m. on Homecoming.
• The Panthers return the the field on the 22nd as will as they will host Bates College at 1 p.m.
