MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan University women's basketball team was defeated in NESCAC action Friday night in Silloway Gymnasium by Bowdoin College, 74-35.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a competitive first half, the Polar Bears cruised in the final 20 minutes of action en route to the victory.
- Wesleyan was led in scoring by Maddie Bledsoe '18 who scored eight on 3-of-5 shooting, while four others recorded six points each. Kaylie Williams '16 added a team-high eight rebounds to go along with her six points, and also dished out two assists.
- Shannon Brady scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Polar Bears. Joining her in double-figures was Hannah Graham with 11. Kate Kerrigan registered a team-high five rebounds and led all players with four steals.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams struggled to score early on.
- After a jumper by Ally Silfen at the 4:57 mark of the first quarter put the Polar Bears up by five, 7-2, the Cardinals responded with four unanswered to get within one.
- With a 7-6 lead and 2:38 remaining in the quarter, Bowdoin held Wesleyan scoreless in the closing minutes to take an 11-5 lead after one.
- Following a lay-up by Brady that put the Polar Bears up eight, 16-8, a jumper by Maeve Vitale '18 capped off a 4-0 run for the Cardinals.
- However, Bowdoin pulled away in the closing minutes of the half and a three-pointer by Silfen gave the visitor's its first double-digit lead of the game with :47 remaining, 30-19.
- Kerrigan hit one from downtown as the clock expired to give the Polar Bears a 33-20 halftime lead.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- It was all Bowdoin in the final 20 minutes of action.
- Diggins hit a three just nine seconds into the half, and the Cardinals got within eight at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter after a lay-up from Vitale, but Bowdoin eventually pulled away and held a 49-29 lead entering the fourth.
UP NEXT
- Wesleyan is back in action tomorrow, Feb. 13 and will host Colby at 3 p.m. Tomorrow's game also marks Senior Day for the Cardinals.
- Bowdoin returns to the court tomorrow as well and will play Conn. College on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
