Cardinals Fall to Bowdoin, 8-2

BRUNSWICK, Maine- The Wesleyan University men's hockey team traveled to Maine to face-off against Bowdoin College in a Saturday night contest. The Cardinals were defeated by a score of 8-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Polar Bears scored four goals in the first period, and the first seven goals of the game.
  • Bowdoin had six different goal scorers.
  • The Cardinals were able to convert on the power play and scored both goals in the second period.
  • The teams combined for 10 goals in the game and five in the second period.
  • The Cardinals were outshot 31-18 in the game.
  • Wesleyan went 1-2 on their power play and 3-5 on the penalty kill.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bowdoin was able to score four first period goals against Cardinal's net minder Dawson Sprigings '18, who would be replaced by Nolan Daley '16 18 seconds into the second period.
  • The Polar Bears got the scoring started early as Kendall Culbertson got them on the board with 1:49 gone by in the first. His goal was assisted by Cody Tedesco and Austin Ricci.
  • At 3:07, Bowdoin got on the board again with a goal by Matthew Lision, which was assisted by Matt Rubinoff.
  • Rubinoff scored a power play goal at 11:10, and the goal was assisted by Spencer Antunez and Chris Wallace. The goal gave the Polar Bears a 3-0 lead.
  • The Bowdoin four goal first period was capped off by a Camil Blanchet goal at 17:44 which was assisted by Gordon Bensen. 
  • The Polar Bear offense continued to click in the second period with goals by Todesco, Daniel McMullan and a power play goal by Lision. 
  • The Cardinals were finally able to break through as Jordan Jancze '18 scored with 17:46 gone by in the second. His goal was assisted by Jaren Taenaka '16.
  • Wesleyan got another in the second on the power play as Mike Yablong '19 put one past Bowdoin goaltender Peter Cronin. Yablong's goal was assisted by Jay Matthews '16 and James Kline '17. The Cardinals would go into the third period trailing 7-2.
  • The Polar Bears added one more goal at 12:47 in the third as Joseph Lace got one by Daley. The goal was assisted by Mitch Barrington and Blanchet. Bowdoin would go onto win 8-2.

  •  The Cardinals will travel to Colby tomorrow where face-off is slated for 3 p.m.
  •  Bowdoin will host Trinity at 4 p.m.
