The Lead: Down a goal heading into the third period, the Wesleyan University men's ice hockey team would rally and score four goals in the final frame to claim a 5-3 victory over Bowdoin College on the road Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Cardinals would take the lead at 9:27 in the second period as Dylan Holze '18 set up Tyler Wyatt '20 who wristed a shot past the Bowdoin goaltender for his second goal of the season.
- The Polar Bears would respond, scoring two goals in under two minutes.
- The first Bowdoin goal came at 10:57 on a goal by Jay Kourkoulis. His goal was assisted by Matt Sullivan and Christian Capello.
- The home team would take a 2-1 lead at 12:31 as Kendall Culbertson scored his first goal on the year. His goal was assisted by Pat Geary and Camil Blanchet.
- The third period was all Wesleyan as they exploded for four goals, including three unanswered, in the period.
- The Cardinals tied the game at 2 as Rob Harbison '17 tipped in the Quincy Oujevolk '17 shot for his first goal of the year at 6:02.
- Just over a minute later, Cam McCusker '18 picked the puck off and would give Wesleyan the lead as he found the back of the net at 7:20.
- Sean Ross '19 would give the Cardinals the two goal lead at 11:02 as he took a pass from Wyatt and got the shot past Bowdoin goaltender Erick Wurman.
- Kourkoulis would end the Wesleyan scoring streak with his short handed goal at 17:04 to bring the home team to within one goal at 4-3.
- Spencer Fox '20 would ice the game for the Cardinals with an empty net goal at 19:02, giving Wesleyan the 5-3 win. Wyatt would tally his second assist on the goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wyatt led all players with three points in the game (1g, 2a).
- Dawson Sprigings '17 earned his sixth win making 26 saves.
