Softball Splits Double-Header With Eastern Connecticut

THE BASICS:

The Lead: The Wesleyan University softball team split a double-header with Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon in Middletown, Conn. 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second as Rielly Wieners '18 scored on a wild pitch and Kendall Carr '18 stole home on a double-steal, which saw Olivia Gorman '19 swipe second base.
  • Sara Pisanelli singled down the right field line to score Samantha Bardos and bring the Warriors to within one run in the third.
  • Rachel Curran '20 added an insurance run for Wesleyan with a sacrifice fly that scored Rachel Kantor '19 to make the score 3-1 in the sixth.
  • Julie McDonald '18 was excellent in the circle, pitching six innings allowing just one run with six strikeouts. Kantor came into close the game in the seventh, and seal the 3-1 victory. 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The visitors put up two runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Haleigh Cardello and Samantha Valentine notched RBIs in the frame.
  • Eastern would score three times in the fifth to go up 5-0.
  • Gorman scored on a passed ball and Izzy Linzer '17 was hit by a pitch to force in a run and bring Wesleyan to within three runs at 5-2 in the fifth.
  • The Warriors added another run in the sixth and would go onto claim the win in game two by a score of 6-2. 

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals return to the field on Friday, April 14th as they will host Little Three rival Amherst College at 5 p.m.
