The Lead: The Wesleyan University men's tennis team has advanced to the quarterfinals in its first NCAA Division III Championship appearance in program history, as the fifth-ranked Cardinals defeated 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins University in the Sweet 16 on Sunday, 5-1.

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS:

• Wesleyan took a decisive 3-0 lead after doubles play.
• In the No. 1 spot, seniors Michael Liu and Jake Roberts won 8-5 over Joseph Cartledge and Jeremy Dubin.
• No. 2 doubles featured a 9-8 (7-1) thriller as Tiago Eusebio '18 and Maxwell Smith '20 edged Justin Kang and Emerson Walsh.
• Steven Chen '18 and Cameron Daniels '18 picked up the first win of the match as they defeated David Perez and Scott Thygesen in the No. 3 position, 8-5.

SINGLE HIGHLIGHTS:

• The Blue Jays cut the deficit to 3-1 as Jeremy Dubin picked up a win in No. 1 singles with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
• However, the Cardinals claimed the No. 2 and No. 6 positions to seal the victory.
• Liu defeated Walsh in No. 2 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-1, and Princeton Carter '20 won the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kang in the No. 6 spot.
  

UP NEXT:

• Wesleyan will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to compete in the quarterfinals on Monday, May 22. The Cardinals will face No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (30-3), who defeated Texas-Tyler (5-1) and Trinity (Tex.) in the second and third rounds, respectively, to advance to the Elite Eight.
• It will be the second meeting this season between the two teams, as CMS won 6-3 at the Stag-Hen Invitational on March 14th.
