MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team (5-1-2, 2-1-2) earned a 1-1 draw with visiting Trinity (3-4-2, 1-3-1) on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wesleyan had a great chance to score at the 12:05 mark after a corner by Katie Stewart Frizzell. Liz Young one-timed the cross, but her low shot was blocked by a Trinity defender, keeping the match scoreless.
- Trinity had an opportunity to net a goal 37:30 in when Tricia Pollock rifled a shot from 20 yards out. The strike sent Wesleyan goalkeeper Zoe Cassels-Brown diving to her right, as the ball skidded just wide left.
- The Bantams got on the board with 1:27 remaining in the stanza after a cross from Duun O'Hara. Amelia Kroschwitz volleyed the cross from O'Hara, before Katie Marlow-Benedick one-timed the ball into the bottom right corner for the 1-0 advantage.
- Trinity looked to double its lead at the 69:30 mark when Pollock had a breakaway, but Cassels-Brown came charging off her line as Pollock was unable to get a shot off.
- The Cardinals found the equalizer 76:28 in when Allie Goss sent a cross from the left side into the box. Lauren Goetzman used her head to redirect Goss's cross into the upper 90, knotting the game 1-1.
- The Goss-Goetzman duo looked to repeat the same play during the 84th minute, but Goetzman's header went just wide left.
- Wesleyan had two opportunities to end the contest during the first extra session. The best chance came at the 98:32 mark when Goetzman used her head to redirect a cross to Kayla O'Brien, but O'Brien's shot sailed just high of the net.
- The teams battled through a second scoreless overtime stanza, earning a 1-1 draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Cardinals held a 19-11 advantage in shots against the Bantams.
- Cassels-Brown was forced to make just two saves during the contest, while O'Connor had 12 stops in net for Trinity.
