MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team (4-11-0) concluded its 2018 campaign with a 1-0 overtime victory over Emerson (3-13-1) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Wesleyan looked to get on the board just 2:05 into the contest, but Alec Haas' hard shot sent Emerson goalkeeper David Kemp diving to deny the opportunity.
• The hosts had back to back scoring chances during the 31st minute after JJ LaCorte's initial shot was blocked by a Lion defender. LaCorte collected the rebound, but his second shot went just wide right of the goal.
• The Lyons had their only quality scoring opportunity with 4:15 remaining in the stanza. Rylan Keeler beat a Cardinal defender 30 yards out, before rifling a shot that went just wide, keeping the contest scoreless heading into the intermission.
• Emerson's RJ Dziejma had a chance to score at the 58:31 mark, but his breakaway sent Wesleyan goalkeeper Chris Franklin charging off his line to deny the opportunity.
• The Cardinals' best look of the second stanza came at the 78:02 mark after a free kick from the left side. Lucas Kimball redirected Komar Martinez-Paiz's kick, but his header shot hit the left post and ricocheted out of bounds.
• Wesleyan looked to score just 26 seconds into the first extra session. LaCorte beat three Lyons' defenders before rifling a shot towards the upper left 90, but a diving-Kemp denied the opportunity.
• The game-winner came at the 97:14 mark after a corner kick by Martinez-Paiz. Kimball redirected the corner with his head, finding nylon for the 1-0 victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Franklin picked up the win in goal for the Cardinals, making four stops, while Kemp had eight saves for the Lyons.
• The game was very physical, seeing five yellow cards and 25 fouls.
• Wesleyan held a 30-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edged in corner kicks.
