MEDFORD, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's ice hockey team (2-0-0, 2-0-0) rounded out opening weekend with it's second-straight win. The Cardinals defeated Tufts 1-0, and held a 29-19 shots advantage during the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The hosts (1-1-0, 1-1-0) came out of the gates strong, taking two back-to-back shots in the first 16 seconds, but Wesleyan's goaltender Tim Sestak denied both opportunities.
- The Cardinals then had two-straight opportunities during the third minute, but shots by Gregg Quincy and Tyler Levine were thwarted by Tufts' goalie Drew Hotte.
- After a scoreless first period, Wesleyan got on the board 8:04 into the second on a power-play. Spencer Fox found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, on a pass by Tyler Wyatt to make it 1-0.
- The Cardinals had a great chance to extend their lead to two just 1:13 into the third period during an extra player situation, but Walker Harris's hard shot hit the pipe and ricocheted out of the goal area.
- Tufts had a chance to knot the game at the 15:02 mark, but Wesleyan's Sean Ross blocked the attempt by Nick Schultze to preserve the one-goal Cardinal advantage.
- The Jumbos turned up the offensive pressure, taking six shots in the final 1:23, but were unable to capitalize on any opportunities as Wesleyan was able to hang on for the win.

- Sestak earned the win in goal with the shutout, making 19 saves, while Hotte had 28 stops in net for Tufts.
