MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Jordan Bonner recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds but the Wesleyan University men's basketball team lost to Eastern Connecticut State University on Sunday afternoon in Silloway Gymnasium, 70-50.
With the loss, the Cardinals are now 2-2 on the year. The Warriors, who were led by Cory Muckle's 21 points, improve to 3-1.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- The first 20 minutes of play went back-and-forth often.
- A lay-up by Jake McCarthy at the 12:03 mark gave ECSU a 16-10 lead, but Wesleyan responded with a 9-1 run to go ahead 19-17. The run was capped off by an alley-oop from Austin Hutcherson to Jordan James.
- A lay-up by JR Bascom with 6:08 to play in the half gave the home team a 25-24 advantage, but the Warriors held Wesleyan scoreless the rest of the way as they closed out the half with a 6-0 run.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- It was a different story in the second half.
- After a 3-pointer by Antone Walker cut the deficit to three, 33-30, ECSU rallied with eight unanswered to take its first double-digit lead of the game.
- The visitors continued to increase their lead down the stretch and a 3-pointer by Carlos Gonzalez with 7:16 remaining gave them a 58-40 lead, essentially putting the game out of reach.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wesleyan outrebounded ECSU, 43-35, but turned the ball over 20 times compared to 11 turnovers for the Warriors.
- Sunday's game featured nine lead changes.
- James joined Bonner in double-figures with 12 points and six boards. Hutcherson scored nine and dished out a team-high four assists.
- Four players scored in double-figures for the Warriors. Muckle was 5-of-10 from 3-point range. Gonzalez finished with 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.

- Wesleyan is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 28 and will play at Farmingdale State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
