CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 9 Wesleyan University women's tennis team defeated No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer on the road Thursday, 6-3. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-0 to start the 2018 spring season while the Sagehens drop to 5-2 overall.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles action.
- The top-ranked doubles duo of Eudice Chong '18 and Victoria Yu '19 cruised to an 8-2 win in the No. 1 spot against the fourth-ranked tandem of Maryann Zhao and Emily Chen.
- The freshmen duo of Polina Kiseleva and Alissa Nakamoto earned an 8-2 win in the No. 2 position and the senior doubles team of Nicole McCann and Helen Klass-Warch claimed a decisive 8-3 win in the No. 3 spot.
- In singles action, Chong won decisively at the top of the lineup with wins of 6-4, 6-1 over Caroline Casper.
- Kiseleva also picked up a thrilling three-set win in No. 4 singles to seal the victory. After a 6-0 first set win, she dropped the second (6-2) before another decisive win in the third, 6-1.
- Wesleyan earned its sixth point after Emily Chen retired in No. 5 singles to give Nakamoto the win.
