MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team (2-2, 1-0) utilized a pair of early goals to triumph over Bowdoin, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. This was the first NESCAC game for the Cardinals who now hold a 35-24-4 overall series record against the Polar Bears (2-3, 0-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wesleyan got off to a quick start, notching its first goal just 4:06 into the contest when Mike Gallo took advantage of a Bowdoin defensive breakdown to make it 1-0.
- The Polar Bears looked for the equalizer, but the Wesleyan defense clamped down, denying four back-to-back opportunities from Bowdoin.
- The Cardinals tacked on another tally at the 23:50 mark when James Schubauer's header found the back of the net, making it 2-0.
- Bowdoin had an opportunity to get on the board at the 78:55 mark, but Moctar Niang's header shot went just wide of the goal.
- Wesleyan had a chance to add another goal with just 10 seconds remaining, but Jack Pironti's shot hit the crossbar before going out of bounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Chris Franklin picked up the win in net for the Cardinals with five saves, while Owen Wolfson made three stops in goal for Bowdoin.
