Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Edged by No. 3 Tufts, 1-0

MEDFORD, Mass. –  In a hard-fought contest, the Wesleyan men's soccer team (2-4, 1-2) fell 1-0 to No. 3 Tufts on Wednesday evening. The game was an evenly matched battle, with each team only able to produce a handful of shots on goal. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Tufts was able to capitalize on one of those shots as they hung on for the 1-0 win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Tufts had a chance to score 8:08 into the stanza, but Wesleyan's Tucker Kelsch blocked the opportunity by Travis Van Brewer, keeping the game scoreless.
  • The Cardinals looked to get on the board at the 22:37 mark when Mike Gallo served a cross from the left corner to the top of the 18. JJ LaCorte connected with the serve, but a diving-Conner Meith thwarted the opportunity.
  • Tufts notched the lone-goal of the game at the 62:41 mark when Joe Braun connected with Travis Van Brewer's corner kick, using his head to direct the ball into the net.
  • Wesleyan looked to knot the game at the 81:37 mark when Nicholas Wallick rifled a shot on goal, but Meith was able to get one hand on the ball and punch it up and over the net to preserve the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Chris Franklin made five saves in goal for the Cardinals, while Meith was forced to make four stops for the Jumbos.

  • The Cardinals continue NESCAC play on Saturday when they host Hamilton at 1:30 p.m.  on Jackson Field.
