Men's Hockey Cruises Past Anna Maria, 9-1

PAXTON, Mass. – The Wesleyan men's hockey team started the new year strong, easing past Anna Maria 9-1 on the road. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-3-1, while the Amcats fall to 4-8-3. During the first meeting between the two teams, Walker Harris recorded a hat trick and an assist, while Andy Espinoza dished out four helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Tyler Kobryn opened the scoring at 8:28 on a power play, giving Wesleyan one-goal edge.
  • Danny Sorabella came out strong in the second frame, finding the back of the goal twice. Sorabella scored just 26 in, before recording his second tally at the 10:47 mark, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage.
  • Wesleyan's Harris added a goal at the 15:57 mark, before Cameron Peritz capitalized on a power play 2:34 later to extend the visitor lead to 5-0 heading into the break.
  • Out of the intermission, Jordan Rose found the back of the goal 7:45 into the third on a power play, before Harris increased the advantage to 7-0 with his second tally at the 9:39 mark.
  • Anna Maria took advantage of a power play opportunity 4:06 later when Gavin Proeh found the back of the net to make it 7-1.  
  • Harris added his third tally of the contest at the 17:14 mark, before Wesleyan's Vincent Lima scored the final Cardinal goal just 16 seconds later, making it 9-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Matteo Esposito made 23 saves during his debut in goal as he picked up the win in net for Wesleyan.
  • Anna Maria's Brendan Boncore made 35 stops during 40 minutes of play, while Julius Huset had 10 saves for the Amcats.

UP NEXT:

  • Wesleyan resumes NESCAC play this weekend, hosting Middlebury on Friday at 7:00 p.m., while entertaining Little Three rival Williams on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
