Wesleyan Shuts Out Little Three Rival Williams, 5-0

 

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's hockey team (6-3-1, 5-0-1) cruised to a 5-0 victory over Little Three rival Williams (7-4-1, 5-2-1) on Saturday. The win was the third-straight for the Cardinals, as they remain unbeaten in the NESCAC.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wesleyan opened up the scoring at the 6:19 mark of the first period when Tyler Levine's wrister found the back of the net glove side.
  • The Cardinals struck again at the 8:16 mark after Walker Harris wrapped around the goal with the puck. Vincent Lima one timed Harris' pass from the doorstep, making it 2-0.
  • Williams looked to cut the deficit to one with 4:52 expired in the second frame after Wyatt Glover intercepted a pass in transition, but his breakaway attempt went just wide.
  • The Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 at the 9:53 mark when Tyler Wyatt snuck the puck past Eph netminder Michael Pinios on the far post.
  • Wesleyan increased its advantage with 13:27 expired when Spencer Fox collected the rebound off an initial saved shot by Matthew Zandi, making it 4-0.
  • Harris scored his fifth goal of the week with 1:58 remaining in the second period when he tucked the puck under the crossbar during a power play.
  • With 32 seconds remaining, Williams had a great chance to get on the board, but Keanu Hilaire's shot was thwarted by a glove save from Sestak.
  • The third period saw back and forth action, with neither team scoring, as Wesleyan held on for the shutout.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sestak picked up the win in goal for the Cardinals, making a season-high 36 saves, while Pinios made 15 stops for the Ephs.

UP NEXT:

  • Wesleyan is back in action next weekend, as they travel to Bowdoin on Friday, before heading to Colby on Saturday.
