WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Jordan James recorded a double-double with a career-high 28 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while blocking three shots, but the Wesleyan men's basketball team lost to Eastern Connecticut State University on the road Tuesday night, 83-60.
James scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half and finished 13-of-17 from the field. With the loss, the Cardinals are now 3-2 on the year. The Warriors were led by Jake Collagan's 28 points as they improved to 1-3.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eastern Connecticut scored the first four points of the game and never looked back.
- At the 13:58 mark, a jumper by Collagan put the home team ahead 16-6.
- The teams exchanged points for most of the half from that point on.
- The Warriors led by as much as 14 with 7:22 on the clock but a dunk by James with 1:23 remaining cut the deficit to seven.
- However, the Warriors closed out the half on an 8-2 run to claim a 50-37 halftime lead.
- James was incredible in the first 20 minutes of play and scored 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eastern Connecticut continued to increase its lead in the second half.
- Wesleyan got within 11 at the 13:38 mark following a dunk from James but it proved to be the closest the visitors would get the rest of the way.
- The Warriors outscored the Cardinals 33-23 in the final 20 minutes of action.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Gabe Ravetz led the Wesleyan bench with nine points while Sam Peek and Gabe Millstein led the team with three assists each.
- Collagan was joined in double-figures by Cory Muckle and Seth Thomas with 16 and 13, respectively. Thomas led the Warriors with seven rebounds, five blocks, five assists, and two steals, while Muckle dished out a game-high six assists.
- Wesleyan held a 44-38 edge in rebounding and outscored Eastern Connecticut 40-20 in the paint.
