Wesleyan Falls to Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Wesleyan men's hockey team fell 7-1 to Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon in the Saint Anselm Thanksgiving Tournament. It was the 21st meeting between the two teams and first since 2010. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-3-0 overall, while the Hawks improve to 6-3-1.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a pair of goals from Ryan Spillane. The first came just 2:13 into the opening frame, before Spillane struck again with five second remaining in the period.
  • The Hawks carried the momentum into the second stanza, extending the advantage to 5-0 with goals from three different players.
  • Suffolk increased the lead to 7-0 in the third. Anthony Iacullo wasted little time, finding the back of the goal just 36 seconds in for his second tally of the game during a power play, before Mike Ferraro capped the Hawk scoring with 2:55 expired.
  • Wesleyan's Walker Harris robbed Suffolk of a shutout at the 15:43 mark during a power play, making it 7-1.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Wesleyan's Matteo Esposito made 22 saves in the first two periods, while Matt Huston stopped nine in the final frame.
  • Michael Soustal picked up the win between the pipes for Saint Anselm, stopping 25 shots.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals will take on Potsdam at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday on the second day of the Saint Anselm Thanksgiving Tournament.
