HARTFORD, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's hockey (8-13-1, 4-9-1) avenged yesterday's 6-1 loss to Trinity (9-10-3, 8-9-2), edging the Bantams 2-1 on the road Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wesleyan had a power play opportunity beginning at the 8:13 mark of the first period, but Bantam goaltender Kai-Lilly Karpman denied all of Wesleyan's chances to keep the contest scoreless.
- Cardinal Sarah Takahashi had a great chance to score with 14 minutes expired when she skated one-on-one against Karpman, but Karpman thwarted Takahashi's shot.
- After a scoreless first period, Wesleyan found the back of the net with 4:45 expired in the second stanza. Allie Damren collected a loose puck before beating Karpman with a quick shot, making it 1-0.
- Trinity looked to knot the game minutes later, but Caelin Flaherty's shot hit the pipe and careened away.
- The Cardinals extended their lead during a power play at the 8:08 mark when Gina Mangiafridda collected a loose puck on the doorstep and snuck it past Karpman for the 2-0 advantage.
- With 3:13 remaining in the second, the Bantam's looked to cut the deficit to 2-1. Lee one-timed a pass toward Wesleyan goaltender Allegra Grant, but Grant denied the chance, preserving the two-goal lead heading into the break.
- Out of the intermission, Trinity's Lee intercepted a pass in transition, before finding the back of the goal to make it 2-1 with 2:18 expired.
- The Bantam's outshot the Cardinals 10-1 in the final period, but were unable to muster up the equalizer as Wesleyan hung on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Grant made 31 saves to pick up the win in goal for Wesleyan, while Karpman stopped 22 shots faced.
