Late Goal Lifts No. 11 Trinity Past No. 12 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -  The No. 12 Wesleyan men's hockey team (15-7-2, 13-3-2) suffered a 3-2 loss at No. 11 Trinity (16-3-5, 12-2-4) on Saturday. With the loss, the Cardinals earn the second-seed for the upcoming 2019 NESCAC Championships. Wesleyan will host seventh-seed Middlebury for a quarterfinal contest on Saturday at a time to be determined, while top-seed Trinity entertains eighth-seeded Tufts.

During the regular season, the Cardinals established a new NESCAC record for the longest unbeaten streak (12-0-2), while also recording a program-high 15 wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bantams opened the scoring just 1:16 in when Dylan Healey collected a loose puck after the opening faceoff, before scoring through the five-hole on a wrist shot for the 1-0 edge.
  • With 7:16 expired, Trinity's Healey struck again when he snuck the puck inside the weak-side post, making it 2-0.
  • Wesleyan cut the deficit to one (2-1) 4:58 into the second period. Tyler Levine sent a pass to Walker Harris from the defensive zone, before Harris found the back of the net.
  • The Cardinals found the equalizer with 12:25 expired in the final frame when Matthew Zandi blasted a shot past Bantam netminder Tedy Loughborough, knotting the game 2-2.
  • Trinity tallied the game-winner with just four seconds remaining when Taggart Corriveau one-timed a pass from Michael Grande, making it 3-2.
