BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 5 Wesleyan men's tennis team started its second NCAA Tournament appearance in exactly the same fashion as its initial appearance two years ago. The Cardinals topped John Carroll 5-0 to advance to the NCAA Regional Final on the courts of host Johns Hopkins. This time around, however, there were a number of new faces helping the Cardinals advance, with only two returning players from the 2017 squad (Princeton Carter and Jonathan Holtzman).
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS:
- Adrian Roji and Noah Lilienthal, ranked No. 1 in the Northeast, played a clean match at the top-spot, getting Wesleyan on the board with an 8-0 win.
- At #2, Carter and Holtzman looked sharp with an 8-4 victory.
- Andrew Finkelman and Marcus Sweeney were also solid in their match, winning efficiently 804.
SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan's fourth point came at #2, where Peter Anker cruised to a straightforward 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
- The clinch came at #4, where Zach Lieb did his part, winning 6-0, 6-0.
- In the unfinished matches, the Cardinals held commanding leads on all courts, taking the first sets in all.
UP NEXT:
- Wesleyan will take on No. 11 Kenyon in an NCAA Regional Final at noon on Sunday, as the Lords topped No. 24 Johns Hopkins 5-2 on Saturday to advance. Earlier this year, the Cardinals topped then-No. 13 Kenyon 5-3 in their opening match of the spring season.
