Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Hockey Falls Short at Conn. College, 3-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's ice hockey team lost a difficult NESCAC road game on Saturday night as it lost to in-state rival Connecticut College, 3-1.

Following the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 6-10-1 overall and 0-8-1 in conference play. The Camels, who received goals from three different players, improved to 12-5-1 and 6-4-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • After a scoreless first period, the two teams combined for three goals in the second.
  • The Camels got on the board first as Melissa Alexander found Melanie Conca for the score at the 9:07 mark of the second period.
  • Just over four minutes later, Wesleyan answered with a goal of its own as Brooke Keough found the back of the net off an assist from Sarah Takahashi.
  • The game wasn't tied for long, however, as Connecticut College tallied the game-winner less than three minutes later. Caroline O'Keefe put the home team ahead as she was assisted by Lauren Helm and Samantha Hunt.
  • At the 5:46 mark of the third, the Camels scored an insurance tally when Kylie Wilkes registered a shorthanded goal off an assist from Erin Dillon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sam Smith started in net for the Cardinals and made 28 saves.
  • Connecticut College goaltender Carly Denora stopped 18 of 19 shots to pick up the win.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals are back in action on Friday, January 31st as they head to Amherst, Mass. to face their Little Three rivals. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
