No. 5 Wesleyan Cruises to 16-2 Win Over Plymouth State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The fifth-ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with a commanding 16-2 win over Plymouth State on Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Colorado College.

Abby Manning led the Cardinals (4-0) with six goals while Sydney Prokupek added six points on three goals and three assists. The Panthers (1-4) received goals from Jewelia Durant and Meg McAndrew.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • It only took 37 seconds for Wesleyan to get on the board, and just 51 seconds later, the Cardinals scored again to go ahead 2-0. Manning scored both goals.
  • McAndrew cut the deficit to one at the 27:25 mark, but Manning came out firing once again and scored three-straight goals in just under five minutes.
  • The Cardinals closed out the first half on a 12-0 run as Manning tallied four goals, Grace Andonian and Prokupek added three each, and Allie Damren and Therese Mittleman each scored once as Wesleyan led 14-1 at the break.
  • With a sizeable lead, the second half proved to be a different story.
  • The Cardinals scored twice in the opening minutes to increase the lead to 15. Seniors Julia Gretsky and Emma Richards each found the back of the net. Richards' goal at the 26:40 mark was Wesleyan's last of the game.
  • With 9:06 remaining, Durant scored for Plymouth State for the last score of the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Wesleyan dominated all aspects of the game.
  • The Cardinals outshot the Panthers 29-7 and won 17-of-20 draw controls.
  • Wesleyan was 15-18 on clears, while Plymouth State was 14-22, and the Cardinals also forced 24 turnovers while picking up 25 ground balls.
  • Goalie Allegra Grant made four saves and is 4-0.
  • Meaghan Allard played between the posts for Plymouth State and stopped nine shots in 53:21.
