SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's tennis team had a perfect weekend, advancing through the field of both the A and B draw of the NEWITT Doubles Tournament to field all-Cardinal finals matchups in both flights. Instead of battling for the title amongst themselves, the Cardinals instead chose to not play the matches and instead were named co-champions across the board.
In the A flight, the fourth seeded
Sasha Gaeth '23 and
Kristina Yu '22, fresh off their run to the ITA New England Regional doubles final, rolled past Friedman/Lendel of Amherst in the opening round before defeating Parlman/Mu of Wellesley to setup a big match with the top-seeded doubles team in the field (Buzkin/Kintiroglou of Amherst). Gaeth and Yu continued their incredible run and defeated the Mammoth's top team to earn a spot in the finals.
On the other side of the A draw, third-seeded
Caitlyn Ferrante '23 and
Katie Fleischman '23 defeated Winter/Carrero in the opening round and later topped Cui/Hart of Amherst. In the semifinals, they defeated teammates
Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 and
Serim Jin '23 to earn a spot in the finals where they were named co-champions along with Gaeth and Yu. Mohsen-Breen and Jin topped Soffer/Moschella of Babson and scored an upset win over second-seeded Pertsemlidis/Liao of MIT to earn a spot in the all-Wesleyan semifinal.
In the B flight,
Nika Vesely '25 teamed with
Alexis Almy '22 for a deep run as the top-seeded doubles team in the draw rolled to the semifinals where they defeated Fernandez/Dong of MIT to put another Cardinal doubles team in the finals. On the opposite end of the bracket,
Kriti Williams '24,
Caitlin Goldberg '23 and
Sophie Henderson '22 combined in different pairings throughout the bracket, making their way past Berler/Henry (Endicott), Stouch/Wang (Babson) and Sha/Sivrak (Amherst) to earn a finals appearance and a co-championship with the Vesely/Alex team.
