Diana Schwarz’s Fourth Quarter Goal Leads Field Hockey Past Colby, 3-2

WATERVILLE, ME – Wesleyan field hockey pulled out a close one this time NESCAC foe Colby on Sunday afternoon. Diana Schwarz '23 was the hero for the Cardinals as she scored off a rebound early in the 4th quarter. With that come from behind win, Wesleyan is now 6-7 (2-6 NESCAC). Colby drops their second straight, moving to 5-6 (1-6 NESCAC).
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Colby came out the aggressor to start the contest, creating a penalty corner and a shot on goal before Megan Rittenhouse came through in the 5th minute to start the scoring on the afternoon
  • The Mules kept up the pressure, adding three more shots with two of them being saved by Caitlin Grant '22. The Cardinals counter attacked off the Grant save, earning a corner which turned into a Melanie Lim '24 goal in the 7th minute
  • Wesleyan immediately had another opportunity just a minute later, producing three shots off two corners. Schwarz managed to get her shot through the defense, but it was saved by the Mules' keeper. The Mules responded with three shots of their own to end the quarter, but were turned away by Grant and the Cardinal defense.
  • The Cardinals took the lead following a corner, as Lois Schwarz '23 put one through mid-way through the second quarter.
  • It was a relatively quiet third quarter until Colby's Sally Cassidy found the equalizer off an assist by Casey Winslow.
  • The final goal came two minutes into the 4th quarter, as Diana Schwarz delivered off a rebound to give Wesleyan the lead for good

Up next for Wesleyan (6-7, 2-6 NESCAC) is a Senior Day contest against Hamilton. The second to last home game will take place at Smith Field on Saturday at Noon.
