Field Hockey Falls to No. 16 Hamilton, 3-1, on Senior Day

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Wesleyan field hockey takes a tough loss on Senior Day to No. 16 nationally-ranked Hamilton, 3-1. This was the last NESCAC regular season game of the year for Hamilton, they finish 5-5 in league play and 9-5 overall. Wesleyan drops to 6-8 (2-7 NESCAC) with one game left against Conn. College at home on Wednesday.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • In a Senior Day game, you might expect there to be some nerves but Wesleyan came right out of the gate attacking. Ava Galdenzi '24 produced a shot that was turned away by Hamilton's goalie, Maggie Reville which was one of two shots and two corners in the first five minutes for the Cardinals.
  • Hamilton came out the aggressor to start the second quarter, with Tracey Stafford putting through her 5th goal of the season to give the Continentals a 1-0 lead
  • The Cardinals were able to survive the two minutes with a player down, however, Hamilton was eventually able to break through. Wesleyan's Imani Ochieng '25 made a defensive save, but the rebound went right to Hamilton's Lexi Takashima to add to the lead, 2-0
  • With less than five minutes to go in the third quarter Hamilton put through another one to make it 3-0, as Delaney Grace capitalized off a nice centering pass by Hannah Dillon
  • Wesleyan showed fight in the fourth quarter, putting together a handful of scoring opportunities. Diana Schwarz '23 put the Cardinals on the board when she found the back of the cage with 10 minutes to go. The goal came off her own rebound that ricocheted off the goalie right back to her for a second try and a Cardinal goal
